It was an immense joy to successfully intubate a patient using fibreoptics. But the technique will need lot of practice till I can actually be able to use it calmly in a case of difficult intubation. Some of the practical points which I have picked up are
1. Use a drying agent ...Glycopyrolate will do
2. Keep the table as low as possible
3. Use the left hand to rotate the fibreoptic limb as the handle gives only 2-D control of movement
4. Use suction to keep view clear
Visualizing the glottis in an intubated patient greatly helps in practicing the control as well as identifying the pharyngeal structure.
